Hiking Hong Kong Greenfield Court to Greenbelt Court Hiking Trail
This Discovery Bay hike is more of an undiscovered hike as the hiking trails are less travelled. It is nice to get out on these hiking trails as they bring you closer to nature, as apposed to those where the path has been specifically built for walkers and hikers or where the Government have concreted them which is often a shame in most cases.
This hiking trail scores 3 stars for both enjoyment and difficulty. The trail is rather short, it doesn't offer incredible views and it doesn't get you away from it all; however it does offer a quick trail for a local looking for a workout. Since it is a short trail, difficulty is reduced, even though the height exceeds 300 metres.
Discovery Bay offers many different hiking trails, many of which you can mix and match different hikes to make each hike unique. It is nice to have the opportunity to walk a different hiking trail every other day rather than sticking to the same thing over and over, making hiking a routine, rather than a joy.
This hike from Greenfield Court to Greenbelt Court takes about an hour and fifteen minutes, which makes it for a great hike if you don't have much time on your hands. It offers great views of Discovery Bay, and on a clear day (we seem to be saying this more often recently due to the high levels of Hong Kong air pollution) views of the airport.
To get to Greenfield Court you can either walk from the Discovery Bay ferry terminal which takes about 15 minutes or you can catch the number 4 bus up to Greenfield Court. If walking simply come out of the Discovery Bay ferry terminal, take a left and head up to the main road (Discovery Bay Road). Turn right and follow this Discovery Bay Road past the tennis courts on the right and up the long hill till you get to the top, just past the DBIS and Wai Lun Primary School.
The third building on your left is Greenfield Court. I personally would recommend that you walk to give yourself a bit of a warmup as the first part of this trail is quite steep and challenging. If catching the bus, either let the bus driver know where you want to get off, or get of at the top of the hill and walk down to the third building on the left. If you miss the stop right at the top of the hill, you can get off at the next one, and Greenfield Court is just a little to your left (to the left of the children's park).
Alternatively if you are coming from Tung Chung (bus number DB01R), Sunny Bay (Bus number DB03R) or the Airport (bus number DB02R), I recommend that you get off the first stop out of the tunnel and walk towards the buildings on the opposite side of the road. Walk along past Neo Horizon and then past "The Greens" as they are known by locals in Discovery Bay. These buildings all begin with Green at the start of their name. Continue on until you get to Greenfield Court (which is the 7th Green building), just past the children's playground (five minute walk).
Once you get to Greenfield Court, head towards the back of the building where you will see the mountains behind and an area for golf cart parking to the left. Basically you want to jump the railing along here to access the path which leads to the hiking trail. Proceed to the nearest lamp post and hoist yourself up and over the railing.
Walk down alongside the back of Greenfield Court and walk down the staircase located back here.
At the bottom, keep to the left and follow the drainway around and up to the beginning of the hiking trail.

The beginning of this trail is very steep and very slippery - wether dry, wet or humid - so please mind your step and make sure you are wearing some good quality hiking shoes. Follow the hiking trail up the hill. There is really only one way to go up here until you reach the first waterfall/rocky pass. Don't forget to look back occasionally at the views behind you.

The hiking trail gets a little rocky up here by the waterfall so mind your step during all weather conditions. Once you pass the water fall / rocky outcrop, take note when rounding the next corner to your right.

There is a very un-noticeable hiking trail here that leads up off to the right of the main hiking trail. This trail is very easy to miss so you really need to keep your eyes peeled. It also doesn't look like much of a hiking trail as you begin so also be weary that you are on the right track. If you can make out the ground in between the scrub, then you are on the right track.
Follow this trail up to the top of the hill. There should be a large group of rocks near the top that you will pass by. Once past the rocks and at the top of the hill, you should be able to see the airport (if it wasn't for the horrid air pollution in Hong Kong).
When you reach the T intersection in the hiking trail, turn right on the newly 'renovated' path. I presume this widened hiking trail will become part of the Lantau North (Extension) Country Park trail which will no doubt lead to Disneyland and then onto Sunny Bay MTR.
Follow this trail, which shortly turns into a single track through the scrub once again.

As you continue along this section, the hiking trail goes down a very steep hill. Take care along here not to slip, especially on days of high humidity as it can become very slippery. Continue down to the bottom of this section until you reach the power pole. Turn right and head back down towards Discovery Bay.

This section of the hiking trail once again becomes a little overgrown and a little difficult to traverse.
Take your time going down this section so as not to hurt yourself by slipping on a rock or something.
When you get to the power pole at the bottom, keep to the left, despite the fact that it looks like the trail leads to the right.
Continue down until you reach the drainway all the while keeping to the left. Follow the stairs down to the rear of Greenbelt Court.

Take care when coming down this very thin drainway as there is a drop to the left of it of about 1-2 meters.
Continue through to the front of Greenbelt Court and make your way either back down to the Discovery Bay ferry pier or wait for a bus back to Tung Chung, the Airport or Sunny Bay from outside Neo Horizon apartment block to your left.
