Hiking Hong Kong Lantau Trail Stage 6
Lantau Trail Stage 6 Reversed gets you the rest of the way to Tai O following the completion of Lantau Trail Stage 5. It is probably one of the best trails I have hiked so far to see the Giant Golden Orb Weaver Spider who's numbers are many in the middle section of this trail. If you are hiking this trail during the hotter months when the spiders are around, especially if you are heading out first thing in the morning, you may want to add some time to complete this hike as you will most likely be ducking and weaving around very hard to see spider webs.
This hiking trail gets 3 stars for enjoyment mainly due to the views one can see to the right of the trail overlooking the mountainside and Tai O as well as the wildlife in the area. Difficulty ranks in at 2 stars as the trail is mainly downhill, however some of the downhill's are very steep and may be difficult to traverse if the weather is very humid or if it has recently rained as the rocks and footpaths are covered in moss.
Starting at the end of Lantau Trail Stage 5, Distance Post L050, continue along the dirt trail heading away from the private residence and lake.

We have yet to identify the spider below, however the layout of it's legs looks similar to that of the huntsman. It has a large, thin web that does not resemble that of a usual spider web.

Similar to the dragonfly spotted on Lantau Trail Stage 5, however this one has black wings.

Keep to the right when moving onto the concrete path shown in the image below.

At Distance Post L051, take a left back onto the dirt path heading toward Tai O.

Keep right when heading back onto the concrete path once again.

This, the Giant Golden Orb Weaver, is the spider that you will get to know well along this trail.

To the right you will catch glimpses of the mountainside and Tai O.

The hiking trail becomes very steep and potentially slippery from this point on.

Toward the end of this trail the path gets rather rough and it may seem like you are going the wrong way, but just continue down the slope.
When you get to the T intersection at the bottom, turn left.
Down this path you will come to a map which marks the end of Lantau Trail Stage 6.
From here you may continue on to Lantau Trail Stage 7 straight ahead, or you may turn right, heading towards Tai O where you can catch the number 11 bus to Tung Chung or the number 1 bus to Mui Wo.
