Hiking Hong Kong Lantau Trail Stage 7 Reversed
Lantau Trail Stage 7 Reversed is a great hiking trail that offers great views as well as a good variety of trail compositions which makes the hike enjoyable throughout.
This hiking trail gets 4 stars for enjoyment as it makes its way along the southern coast of Lantau Island, offering some great views and trail compositions along the way. It gets 3 stars for difficulty as total ascent is limited to 180 metres.
Unfortunately on the day that I went on this hike it started raining on me toward the end of Lantau Trail Stage 8 Reversed, so the majority of my photos are shot through or out of a plastic bag (my home made protective cover lol). Most have rain smeared over the lens to top it off.
The trail stars at Distance Post L076 and continues along the catch water until turning off to the left a little while past Distance Post L074.

It really started raining hard along here - please bear with me as you lose your vision. After Distance Post L074 keep an eye out for the trail which continues down a trail to your left. The sign below shows an alternative route for this section of the trail due to the fact that part of the original trail passes through some areas of private land. These sections of the trail cannot be maintained as a result, but in my opinion, this just makes the trail more interesting. Continue straight ahead on the regular trail.

The blue and yellow borders suggest that you are looking out of a zip lock bag. Be glad that it's not raining on your head while you check out this trail.

Fan Lau Tung Wan offers some great views ahead. Be careful on this rocky path as it gets very slippery when wet or humid.

Up ahead you will pass through a very small village named Fan Lau.

When you get down to the beach, turn right at Distance Post L070.

The trail turns into boulders and rocks up ahead. Please mind your step.

Oh by the way, it is still raining and the trails are starting to fill up. Please note that if you are hiking this trail when it is raining, be prepared to get very wet. This is just the beginning. Yes, I could have walked along the edges, but to be honest, I was already soaked through so I didn't see the point.

That's Guishan Island (PLA base from the 1950s) off in the distance. It is in the Northwestern Group of Islands in the Wanshan Archipelago, part of Guangdong Province. On a clear day you should be able to see Macau just to the right of these islands.

Up ahead, the hiking trail becomes a little overgrown as we get closer to Yi O Kau Tsuen.

At this point, the hiking trail appears to continue down and along a waterway/stream. Perhaps it only gets like this when it is raining heavily.

Take your chances walking on the unstable rocks or just do as I did and walk through the stream.

Well it is at knee height right now, but let me assure you that it gets better from this point on.

You may have to push your way through the tall thick grass and plants.

When you reach this four war intersection, continue on straight ahead into the bushes.

After another bout of bushes you will emerge at Yi O. Follow the paved trail to your right, continuing straight ahead all the way to Tai O.

When you get to this little red hut, keep to the right.

If I could have found it, Distance Post L055 would have marked the end of this trail. From here you can continue on to Lantau Trail Stage 6 Reversed, or turn left heading towards Tai O where you can catch the number 11 bus to Tung Chung. You could also walk from Tai O to Tung Chung if you are feeling up to it.
