Hiking Hong Kong Lantau Trail Stage 10 Reversed

This is more of a walk than a hike. I would only recommend this hiking trail to fitness gurus who want a flat path which is away from the hustle and bustle of Hong Kong.

This is a poor excuse of a hiking trail. 90% of the trail runs along a catch water which is less than inspiring. Therefore it gets a measly 2 stars for enjoyment. The last 10% of the trail is worth seeing as it descends through a lovely wooded area toward Shui Hau. Difficulty ranks at 1 star as 90% of the trail is flat, and the remainder is downhill.

Starting point for Lantau Trail Stage 112hrs to Shui Hau

The official start of this trail is at the south side of Tung Chung Road, however since Tung Chung Road has been renovated and thus relocated, this is no longer the case. Still getting off at the last bus stop along Tung Chung Road (south side), you can get onto Lantau Trail Stage 11 and walk back toward Stage 10. This is a 1.5km walk (about 15-20mins) along the same boring water catchment footpath that you will continue to walk along. We start this trail at the official starting point for Lantau Trail Stage 11, and walk back toward the starting point for Lantau Trail Stage 10. The starting distance marker is L113.

Take the path on the right (where the truck is parked in the picture above) and head toward Shui Hau. The sign estimates about 2hrs to get there, however since there isn't much to see, it only take about 90 minutes.

There are plenty of picnic sites along the way which break up the monotony of the water catchment. You will rarely get a glimpse out to the left of the villages below. Pictured below is Leyburn Villas.

The lack of pictures is due to the fact that the only thing you will see is the water catchment pictured below. This is the same view km after km.

A welcome break in the trees. Pictured below is Tong Fuk.

There are several barbecue spots located along here, including Tong Fuk Barbeque Area Site 1 & 2.

Warning: Beware of falling into the catch water. It is a 6 foot drop, so do be careful, especially if riding your bike along here. There are no barriers.

I was desperate for pictures. This is the most creative I could get.

Keep right and head along the catch water to Shui Hau.

We pass Tong Fuk Barbeque Area Number 3 after distance post L105.

After 2km of hiking, all I had to show was 4 distance posts. What joy! After distance post L102, you will come to Shui Hau Barbeque Area. Head toward the back of the barbeque area where there is a sign pointing to Shui Hau. Yay! We leave the catch water!

This 800m section of trail is really quite beautiful. There are small trails which branch off everywhere leading to grave sites. Though, be warned, there are many mosquitoes around here - I was bitten alive.

I was so happy to traverse through this section that I got snap happy. I'll remind you that this green section is just 800m long.

When you come out of the trees and onto the road, you have reached the end of this trail. Turn right onto the road to continue along Lantau Trail Stage 9 Reversed, or, also toward the right, walk to the bus stop and get the number 11 bus back to Tung Chung.
