Hiking Hong Kong Lantau Trail Stage 11 Reversed
This hiking trail is half decent but don't expect too much as most of this trail follows a water catchment road which is as boring as they come. You may instead want to complete the first part up to the water catchment road, and then head back the way you came back to Pui O.
This hiking trail gets 3 stars for enjoyment purely because 20% of it is enjoyable on dirt tracks. It gets 3 stars for difficulty as the maximum ascent is 140 metres.
Starting at Chi Ma Wan Road, at the intersection of South Lantau Road turn left and follow the road up the hill.
On the right hand side of the road, as it climbs out of Pui O, you will come across a small road on the right which is marked with a Lantau Trail yellow signpost pointing up this steep hill.
Almost immediately on the left, just as the road turns right, the trail leads off into the bushes. Make sure that you do not miss it as it is not sign posted at all.

This is where you should turn left onto the trail. I can only assume that it is not sign posted due to the fact that we are hiking this trail in reverse.
In fact there are several areas along both Lantau Trail Stage 12 and Lantau Trail Stage 11 that are not sign posted, where you could easily get lost.
So continue onto this dirt trail for about 1km until you get onto the boring catch water.
I personally recommend that you turn back at the catch water because it is seriously boring and not worth the remaining 3.5km of trail, nor is the subsequent Lantau Trail Stage 10 Reversed which continues along the catch water for a further 5.5km or so.

By some miracle, I spotted this almost invisible spider in the scrub. It has a small red body with very long and thin legs. It is centered in the picture below.

I assume that this insect is a beetle. It is quite large and there are quite a few around. They can give you a decent fright if they happen to fly into you.

Again, there is no sign post as to which way to go as the connecting trail extends both to the left and the right.
Continue along to the left passing distance post L120.
When you come to Tung Chung Road on the catch water you may decide to get off the trail and catch a bus.
You can catch the number 11 to Tung Chung, or if you want to hike further, I would suggest catching the number 11 toward Tai O and getting off in Shui Hau where you can continue along Lantau Trail Stage 9 Reversed.

Turn right at the end of the path pictured above and then continue along this long catch water.

The trees at the beginning of this section are quite interesting.

A caterpillar party on a stick. These critters are tiny.

Up ahead, Tung Chung Road crosses the catch water. Get off here if you would like to head back to the hustle and bustle of Hong Kong. You can catch the number 11 bus toward Tung Chung. Alternatively, you could catch the number 11 in the other direction toward Tai O and get off in Shui Hau where you can continue on Lantau Trail Stage 9 Reversed - this is a gem of a trail.

This trail ends at the old Tung Chung Road, which for most purposes is no longer used. Should you wish to go somewhere from here, you may continue onto Lantau Trail Stage 10 Reversed or head back to the Tung Chung Road Flyover (about 1.5km) where you can catch a bus.
