Hiking Hong Kong Peng Chau Loop 07

This hike starts off the same as Peng Chau Loop 02, but loops back via the trail that runs parallel to and above the beginning of this trail, making for the best scenic views available on this side of the island.

This trail gets 3 stars for enjoyment as it includes some great views of Discovery Bay and gives you a good tour of the northern side of Peng Chau Island, including the grave site area. The are some gentle inclines on this hike, so it gets 2 stars for difficulty.

The starting point for this hike is the Peng Chau Market which is located mid-way between the Central ferry pier and the Discovery Bay ferry pier.

Starting the hike at the Peng Chau Market, head towards Wellcome. Stop off and get yourself a drink for the hike. Continue past Wellcome and veer left toward the waterfront.

Follow the green fence along the waterfront and past the residential buildings on the right.

Continue straight along this trail until you reach a small path leading off to the right named Peng Yu Path.

There are some great views of Discovery Bay from this hiking trail.

Continue along Peng Yu Path which follows the waterfront, passing some lovely beaches along the way. Due to their location, these beaches remain considerably clean and you may be tempted to jump in for a swim. There are also some good views of the hotels at Disneyland from here.

Head up the steps at the end of Peng Yu Path and straight over to the beaches on the other side which offer great views of Hong Kong Island and Kowloon on a clear day.

There are two small beaches here. The one straight ahead is littered with rubbish due to it's location, whereas the one to the left is crystal clean (most of the time).

Turn around and head back up the stairs where you came from and turn left up the stairs.

There are quite a few stairs to the top of this section, so take it easy.

Turn around and look back for a nice view of Disneyland on your way up the stairs. You may also see Tsing Ma Bridge from up here if the skies are clear enough.

At the top you may turn left and head down to another beach which also offers great views of Hong Kong Island as well as Disneyland on a clear day.

This beach, however, is not as clean as the ones before it and smells bad as well.

Not to mention the hike down to it and back up again.

You may skip it if you like and turn right instead.

We will however show you what is down there and you can make the decision for yourself.

A lot of rubbish accumulates at this beach. Not only does it look bad, but it smells bad too.

When you can't hold your breath any longer, turn around and head back up the stairs you came down.

Continue past the junction and up the stairs. At the top, continue toward the right.

At the end of this path, turn right and follow the path through to the next junction & continue straight.

There are some great views of Discovery Bay and Disneyland along this stretch.

When you reach the t intersection be sure to continue straight ahead.

Up ahead we pass through an area scattered with grave sites. One thing you can be sure of when coming across these areas is that there will be a good view.

Continue out the other side of the grave areas and down the steps. Turn right at the bottom.

At the next junction turn left and head back towards the Peng Chau Market.

Continue along the road and past the residential buildings, toward the water front.

Veer left at the park then right at the fire station. Walk past Wellcome and back to the ferry pier from where you started.
