It has been a while since I have recorded any trails here in Hong Kong due to several reasons, the most notable being that the strap of my Garmin XT310 corroded and literally fell to bits, pretty much rendering it useless. It was only until after I threw it away that I discovered that this is a common issue and that Garmin would replace the strap. Too bad.
And so, with the Garmin Fenix 2 making its way out of the market (read discontinued), the price slash prompted me to make the purchase as it was now affordable.
These watches do offer a ton of features and are probably well worth the hefty price tags, however I always find other things that get prioritized above the GPS hiking watch, and so it always falls to the wayside. After working my butt off in China over the past 3 weeks though, I decided that I deserved to splash out a little and so I bought the Garmin Fenix 2 before it could no longer be found again with a one year warranty still intact.
I’m not going to go into any detailed review here since you can already find plenty of detailed reviews online for this watch. I have taken it out once already on a short hike with my Son and my Axial Wraith, despite being sick – I hate this weather – and it performed as expected. I must admit that it is nice to gather all the stats again, this is one thing which I have really missed about hiking.
Anyways be sure to look out for some updated stats on the trails as I revisit some existing trails and add new ones.
