Hong Kong Trail Stage 5 begins at the top of Wong Nai Chung Gap Road. Continuing on from Hong Kong Trail Stage 4, you’ll need to cross Wong Nai Chung Gap Road and head up Tai Tam Reservoir Road. Hong Kong Trail Stage 5 continues a little section up this road on the left hand side, along with Wilson Trail Stage 2, which are both clearly signposted – you cannot miss it.
Hong Kong Trail Stage 5 is a decent hiking trail with two peaks to climb, and it offers some great views of Quarry Bay and Tai Tam Upper Reservoir.

This section of Hong Kong Trail is quite difficult. Although it is the shortest section at just 4km, it also consists of two peaks, a total height increase of about 350 meters. For the seasoned hiker that is not a great deal, but for the family going out for a hike, this is quite difficult.

What also must be considered is the walk down to Quarry Bay at 3km and a 300 meter descent. Another option is however to continue onto Hong Kong Trail Stage 6.

First off, here is a map of the mobile network coverage of Hong Kong Trail Stage 5. Take note of telephone booth locations and poor network coverage areas just in case you or one of your team members should have an accident. It is also useful to note the distance marker points so that if you do have an accident, that you can quote the nearest distance post.
Now, let’s get started on the hike. In the first section of the hike, you will need to follow Tai Tam Reservoir Road uphill for a bit before reaching the start of the ‘real’ hiking trail on your left.
Hong Kong Trail Stage 5 is great for views of Tai Tam Upper Reservoir, views overlooking Hong Kong’s concrete jungle, and gets you up close and personal with a quarry. Try to get out on this trail when the weather is good, the views are quite spectacular.
